Recently, I was trying to sync my BlackBerry with my Windows PC running Microsoft Outlook. I ran into a bit of a problem and kept getting the following error messages below from the Microsoft Outlook Connector:

No Available Message Stores

I was using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software and would get this annoying error message whenever I was trying to perform a sync.

After doing some Googing, I finally figured out how to fix this problem. Even though I was able to fix it using one method, I will also list out the other reasons why you may get this error message.

Damage or Corrupted MAPI Profile

The main reason this can occur is due to a problem with the MAPI subsystem or MAPI profile. In this case, you need to create a new one. You can do this in one of two ways: the long way and the short way.

You can create a new Outlook email profile for Outlook 2010, 2007 or 2003 by following the long-winded instructions from Microsoft’s website:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918

Or you can follow these simple steps below:

1. Exit Outlook and exit the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software

2. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32

3. Rename the MAPI32.dll file to MAPI32.dll.old

4. Find the file called FIXMAPI in the same folder and double-click it.

This will create a new MAPI32.dll file for you automatically. Now open Outlook and the Desktop Manager program and try to sync your BlackBerry with Outlook. Hopefully, you will no longer get the “No Available Messages Stores” error.

Outlook Connector Support

Outlook 2003 includes an add-in called Microsoft Outlook Connector, which lets you connect to web-based email services like Windows Live Hotmail. Your email service may not be supported and hence you can get the error above.

BlackBerry Desktop Manager

Depending on what version of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software you are running, it will only work with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. In Windows Server, the MAPI subsystem does not allow the Desktop Manager software to access the message store directly.

Office Version

Finally, you’ll get this error message if you running a version of Outlook that is not supported by the Desktop Manager software, such as a beta version of Outlook 2010.

In this case, you may have to downgrade to Office 2007.

If you still have problems syncing your Blackberry with Outlook, post a comment and I’ll try to help.
